Planning Your Wedding - Venues

Last month I decided to start a Mini Series on the wedding planning process, and right at the top of my priority list was getting the venue sorted. So this months blog is all about where to start your search for the right wedding venue for you.

With such a massive variety to choose from, it's easy to get lost in options!

My advice would be to take some time to work out a few of the key things listed below first, then you can start your search feeling confident about what it is your looking for.

What part of the uk would you like to get married in?

Getting married near home (or even at home if you are lucky enough to have the space) cuts down on lots of travel and accommodation expenses, and is generally a greener option. But, if there is a special (or cheaper) part of the country you'd like to celebrate in, it's always a good idea to find an option where you can have the ceremony, reception and most of the accommodation all in one place to cut down on all the traveling for you and your guests. Of course the bonus of going away is making a long weekend of it!

What style of wedding would you like have?

It's a good idea to have a think about what style of event suits you before starting your search. Knowing how you would like you day to look will narrow down the type of venue that is right for you.

From beach picnics to festival wedding weekends, the choices are endless, but whatever it is you are looking to do, the perfect venue is out there.

What size is your guest list?

This may well be determined by the venue if you fall in love with somewhere and are willing to compromise on numbers. But putting together a list, and having a ball part figure is really helpful when you start your search - The capacity of venues varies greatly, and can often be a decision maker.

The Date

Obviously the more flexible you can be on dates the better, but it is a good idea to sit down and work out when you definitely can't do before your search begins. Venues tend to get booked out at least year in advance so this takes some advance planning!

Your budget

This is a very important thing to be clear about before you start any of the planning process. It is so easy for the budget to spiral completely out of control in the wedding world! Have a good long think about what you are going to set your budget at, in most cases the venue will take a good chunk of it, but try to be really good about only looking at options you can afford - if you start by looking at everything out there, it may be that your heart finds it hard to let go of somewhere that's way above what you can spend.

Once you've worked through all, or some, of these factors you will have a pretty good idea of what you are looking for.

Now it's time to start seriously looking at the viable options.. . . Good luck.

If it's a glamping festival style event you are going for, here are a few places in Wales that I love, and a few photos to inspire.
